For a healthy lawn, you will want to fertilize and water it on a regular basis. You will need to make sure that you choose the correct fertilizer for your lawn type. Also make sure how often you are to water the lawn. Different grasses need different watering schedules.
Fertilizing aids in the growth of your lawn. It will also help your lawn recover from the winter weather, and in the fall, to prepare for the winter weather season. Fertilizer comes in granulated or liquid; whichever type you decide on is totally up to you. With the granulated you will need to water the lawn after applying it to your lawn. There is slow release and quick release fertilizers for you to choose from. It will also depend on whether you live in the warm climate or a cool climate, as to what type of fertilizer you choose. The fertilizer is made for the different climates.
You will want to remove the thatch from your yard prior to applying your fertilizer so that the food can reach the plant roots. Also, you may want to do a soil test to aid in the correct choice for your lawn fertilizer. To make sure you do not water too long, put a cup in the sprinkler area. When you reach one inch of water, stop watering, as it is enough for that watering time. Also, your length of the grass is important; don't scalp your lawn. It is recommended that you keep it at a length of 2.5 to 3.5 inches for a healthy lawn.
