Tips on Mowing the Lawn

Well, there is a science to mowing your lawn and here are a few tips to help you along so your lawn will be the talk of the town this summer. First of all, make sure your mower is in proper working condition; that will make the job so much easier. Using a self-propelled mower is beneficial to you because you don’t need to put forth as much effort into pushing the mower.

Next you should set the deck of the mower at the appropriate height for your type of grass. When you do the first mowing of the season you should collect the grass clippings in a bag. After that you can let them fall into the lawn; it makes a good fertilizer for your lawn as it decomposes. Make sure to leave your lawn long enough. Proper grass height can vary depending on the weather. Cutting your grass too short will cause it to suffer and possibly die out. By keeping the grass longer it will need less watering and it will help with weed control.

The longer your grass is the healthier its roots are and then it is better able to ward off grubs and other pests that can damage your lawn. Do not mow your lawn any more than it needs to be kept looking trim and neat. Some gardeners will tell you to change the pattern of your mowing each time you mow. By doing this your grass will tend to grow straighter. Before long your lawn will be the envy of all your neighbors.
