The Importance Of Raking Leaves From Your Lawn

Removing leaves from your yard is a dreaded chore for some people. However, some people enjoy being in the crisp autumn air. They find raking leaves an enjoyable rite of fall. It is actually a healthy way to exercise while enjoying the great outdoors.

There are several reasons for removing leaves from your yard. One reason is that it makes your yard more attractive with all the leaves removed. The most important reason is for the health of your lawn. The excessive amount of leaves left in your lawn will tend to suffocate the roots of the grass. Roots are the lifeline of your lawn. If these roots do not get enough air, some of your grass will be snuffed out. Moisture is another reason for removing leaves. If leaves are left during the winter months, they absorb the moisture from rains, withholding it from the soil.

Leaves are an excellent base for compost. Therefore, if you allow your leaves to stay in your lawn, you are wasting some precious material that can be recycled for organic fertilizer. You can purchase mulching blades and a bagger for your lawn mower that will make your leaves easier to handle for your compost pile.

Leaf raking is hard work, but there are gadgets on the market that will make your job easier. Don’t make the mistake of letting your leaves go to waste. For the sake of a healthy lawn, make this a fall event. Get your whole family involved. If you want to burn a few leaves, build a fire and roast some wieners and marshmallows. That makes it seem more like family fun instead of a dreaded chore.
