Reasons to Remove Leaves From the Yard in the Fall

There are several reasons to remove leaves from the yard in the fall, not the least of these is that they make the yard look messy. The longer the leaves lay on the yard, the more grass that will be destroyed by the stagnant leaves. They also become smelly and disgusting from the mold and mildew that happens when the rain falls on those piles of leaves. Remember that insects like to hibernate during the winter in piled-up leaves and then they are ready to cause havoc at your house in the spring. Leaves can also be hazardous on walkways and tend to clog the gutters and downspouts.

You should be diligent about removing the leaves from the yard even if it takes several days of raking them. It is more difficult in the spring to remove those rotten and decomposed leaves left on the yard during the winter. Don't wait for the fierce autumn winds to blow them over to the neighbor's yard. Your neighbor will be happier if you regularly rake, pick up and remove the leaves from your lawn.

While you're raking the leaves from the yard, take time to remove any dead plants from your flower or vegetable garden too. It's also a good time to clean up the stray branches and twigs lying around the yard.

Tons of family fun can be had in raking the leaves off the lawn, then the kids jump in the piles and throw leaves at each other. What a memory. Fall is a definitely a fun time of the year, but when those leaves are on your yard, it is not fun for your lawn.
